EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head football coach Randy Walker announced today the hiring of seven assistant coaches to his Wildcat staff. All seven were on Walkers staff at Miami (OH) and have a collective 63 years of collegiate coaching experience. Walker has two spots remaining to complete his staff and those positions will be filled in the coming days.

Joining Walker in Evanston will be: Kevin Wilson (Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks); Brad Bolinger (Defensive Backs); Howard Feggins (Wide Receivers); Jack Glowik (Defensive Line); Aaron Kromer (Offensive Line); James Patton (Tight Ends and H-Backs); and Jay Peterson (Linebackers). In addition, Brian Von Bergen has been named Coordinator of Football Operations. He served as the Wildcats Recruiting Assistant the past two seasons.

Following are brief bios on the new Wildcat assistant coaches.

Kevin Wilson - Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
A 1984 graduate of North Carolina, Kevin Wilson will serve as NUs offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Wilson spent nine seasons at Miami and was their offensive coordinator for the past six seasons. Under Wilsons direction, Miami amassed the three-highest total offensive seasons in school history. During the 1997 campaign, the Redhawks ranked sixth nationally in scoring and broke MAC and Miami single-season records for points (412), touchdowns (55), passing yards (2,591), passing yards per game (235.5), total offense yards per game (443.3), points per game (37.5), first downs (259) and PATs (55).

Wilson was a student-assistant for UNC in 1984 and worked as a graduate assistant the next two seasons. He then spent a season with Winston-Salem State leading them to the Division II NCAA quarterfinals. Before reuniting with Walker in Miami, he spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator at North Carolina A&T.

Kevin and his wife Angela, have two daughters, Elaina and Makenzie.

Brad Bolinger - Defensive Backs
Brad Bolinger is in his third season serving under coach Walker, having spent the past year as the defensive backs coach of the Redhawks. Bolingers secondary led the Mid-American Conference in pass defense and pass efficiency defense last season. Miami only allowed six touchdowns through the air and intercepted 13 passes. Opposing quarterbacks threw for only 150.8 yards per game and completed 47.7 percent of their passes.

During the 1997 season, Bolinger served as a graduate assistant working with the defensive backs and offensive scout teams. That season, the RedHawks finished 28th nationally in pass efficiency defense. Prior to Miami, Bolinger spent three years as an assistant coach at Franklin College (Ind.). Bolinger was a four-year letterwinner at Franklin as a wide receiver.

Howard Feggins - Wide Receivers
Howard Feggins is also in his third season under Walker. Feggins has spent the past two seasons coaching the wide receivers at Miami. In his first season at Miami, Feggins tutored All-MAC selection Jay Hall, who set a school single-season reception record.

Prior to earning the Miami post, Feggins spent two seasons as assistant coach in charge of defensive backs and kick returners at Wingate University (N.C.). A 1987 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Feggins was a four-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels. A cornerback and strong safety, Feggins totaled 169 tackles during his career. Following his graduation, Feggins played for the New England Patriots in 1988 and 1989 and the New York Giants in 1990. He played two seasons for the London Monarchs of the World Football League before closing out his career with the Hamilton TigerCats of the Canadian Football League.

Feggins, 33, and his wife Renee, have two children, Jensen and Kevin.

Jack Glowik - Defensive Line
Jack Glowik was an original staff member of Walkers at Miami and coached at his alma mater for the last 12 seasons. During his tenure, he has coached several first or second-team All-MAC defensive linemen.

Glowik, 42, began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Miami during the 1978-79 seasons, then served as an assistant coach from 1980-82. Glowik then went to North Carolina State, serving as defensive line coach for the Wolfpack from 1983-84. He returned to coaching in 1987 as outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator at Youngstown State. In 1988, Glowik was the defensive line coach for Ohio University.

Considered one of the finest defensive linemen ever to play for Miami, Glowik was inducted into the Miami Hall of Fame last year. He was a four-year letterwinner from 1974-77. As a senior, he was voted Miami and MAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Jack and his wife, Beth, have two daughters, Kelsey and Haley.

Aaron Kromer - Offensive Line
Aaron Kromer has spent the past seven years on Walkers staff. Kromer coached the offensive line last season and has also coached the tight ends and H-backs, defensive line and special teams during his tenure. Kromers line helped Miami running back Travis Prentice rush for 1,787 yards and 19 touchdowns. Prentice finished the season second in rushing yards to Texas Ricky Williams.

Kromer, 31, spent the 1990 and 1991 seasons as a graduate assistant on Walkers staff. He was a three-year letterman at offensive tackle from 1987-89 and was captain his last two seasons. He is one of only four players in the history of Miami football to be a two-time captain. In addition, Kromer earned second-team all-MAC honors in 1989 and has been the recipient of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award.

Aaron and his wife, Dawn, have a son Zachary, and a daughter, Brooke.

James Patton - Tight Ends & H-Backs
James Patton served this past season under Walker as tight ends and H-backs coach at his alma mater. Patton spent the previous three years at the University of Rhode Island. From 1993-95, Patton served as a graduate assistant with the Miami program.

Patton, 27, earned four letters at Miami as a tight end. Primarily a blocking tight end, he tallied 45 passes for 504 yards and one touchdown during his career. He was named a captain his senior season, earning first-team All-Mid-American Conference honors.

After working as a graduate assistant for two seasons at Miami, Patton joined the Rhode Island staff in 1995. He was the Rams tight end and tackles coach and served as the squads assistant strength and conditioning coach during the 1995 season. He then served as the teams offensive line coach for the 1996 and 1997 campaigns.

James and his wife, Nichole, have a son, Brayden.

Jay Peterson - Linebackers

Jay Peterson has spent nine seasons coaching under Randy Walker. During his tenure, Peterson has coached several All-MAC linebackers, including two-time MAC Defensive Player of the Year JoJuan Armour. Armour was named a third-team All-American by the Associated Press. Another Peterson pupil, Dustin Cohen, along with Armour, were named third-team All-Americans by Football News.

Regarded as one of the finest running backs in Miami history, Peterson earned four letters from 1980-83 and was selected co-captain his senior year. Peterson still ranks fourth on Miamis all-time rushing list with 2,874 yards.

Before returning to Miami, Peterson worked as a high school coach for six years. He has worked with both linebackers and running backs in his coaching career.

Jay and his wife, Freda, have a daughter, Jada.
