Vukusic Earns Third-Team All-Big Ten
March 8, 2005 All-Big Ten Teams in PDF Format EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern junior forward Vedran Vukusic has been named a consensus third-team All-Big Ten selection for the 2004-05 season. It is the second-straight season he has earned All-Big Ten recognition; last season, he was an honorable mention honoree. Vukusic leads the Wildcats and is fourth in the Big Ten in scoring (17.2 ppg) entering this weekend's Big Ten Tournament. The Wildcats are the eighth seed and will face ninth-seeded Michigan Thursday at 11 a.m. at the United Center in Chicago. Vukusic has led NU in scoring 20 times in 29 games this season, and had 26 double-figure scoring games (in the three where he did not reach double digits, he fell just one point shy with nine). He also led the 'Cats in rebounding six times. Vukusic had nine games with 20 or more points, including a 32-point outing against Iowa that is the best-scoring game by a Wildcat player in the Bill Carmody era (five seasons). Vukusic has knocked down 63 three-point baskets this season, good for eighth on NU's single-season list, and is two points shy of becoming just the ninth Wildcat player in history to score 500 in a single season. He is scheduled to start NU's Big Ten Tournament game with Michigan, which would be his 30th start of the season; that would tie a school record. Vukusic became the 26th player in school history to reach 1,000 points for his career when he drained 17 vs. Michigan State on March 2, and he is just the 14th to do it in three seasons. Vukusic's fellow Croatian, senior Davor Duvancic, was Northwestern's recipient for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The complete All-Big Ten Teams are listed below.
