EVANSTON, Ill. - Freshman J.A. Happ (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) was named to the 2002 Mideast Region team today as voted on by Mideast Region coaches. Happ, named as a second-team releiver, was also named a first-team All-Big Ten selection back in May of this year.

Happ concluded his freshman campaign pitching in 21 games with three starts and ending the year with the team's best ERA at 2.10 in 51.1 innings. Happ pitched in 11 regular-season Big Ten games earning three saves and compiling a 3-1 record. He also held opposing hitters to a .217 league batting average and .208 overall.
