IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa scored seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings, defeating Northwestern 10-4 in game two of Saturday's doubleheader in Iowa City. Mark Ori went 4-for-4 with an RBI, but it wasn't enough as the Hawkeyes pounded out 13 hits in the seven-inning contest. Iowa and Northwestern will meet Sunday for a doubleheader, beginning at 11 a.m.

Unlike game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City, Northwestern jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Shortstop Jon Mikrut hit a seeing-eye single through the left side, scoring Jason Krynski from third. Krynski singled in his at bat and moved to second on Ori's single to left field. Mikrut followed with his single between the third baseman and shortstop, giving NU their first lead of the doubleheader.

The lead did not last long, as Iowa tied the score in the bottom of the third inning, when Nate Yoho hit a single through the right side. The hit scored L.J. Mims from third, who had reached on a bunt single

Iowa recaptured the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three unearned runs off Wildcat starter J.A. Happ.

Iowa broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring four runs in the inning. Only one of the runs was earned as Iowa took advantage of a fielding error by Northwestern.

In the bottom of the fifth, head coach Paul Stevens called on junior Chris Hayes to relieve Happ. In his shortest outing of the season, Happ gave up 10 hits, eight runs (two earned), while striking out five.

In the top of the sixth inning, Mikrut tattooed his fifth home run of the season over the left field fence. It was the 15th round-tripper of Mikrut's career.

Junior Chris Davidson started the sixth inning on the mound for Northwestern, lasting just two-thirds of an inning. The Michigan native gave up two runs on two hits and a walk.

Freshman Ryan Myers took over for Davidson, inducing a ground ball to end the inning.

NU scored two runs in the sixth inning, but it was too little too late, as NU falls to 17-21-1, 6-12 in the Big Ten. With the sweep, Iowa improved to 14-26, 7-11.

Offensively for NU, Ori continued to swing NU's hottest bat, going 4-for-4 with an RBI in the contest. Ori is hitting .455 (30-for-66) in Big Ten games this season. Mikrut finished with two RBI, hitting safely in two of his four at bats.

Game one of Saturday's doubleheader will be a seven-inning contest, followed by a nine-inning game.
