On Thursday Oct. 4, the Glenview AYSO soccer team held a special practice as Carolyn Edwards, Jessica Lau, Jeanette Lorme and Lauren Johnston from the women's soccer team came to run drills with the 8-year-old soccer enthusiasts and motivate them for their weekend game. Donations to Student Movement for Real Change were accepted, an organization working to build soccer fields for youth in South Africa. "As the practice was ending one of the girls was asking me how much time was left and if we could still have another half. Despite it getting dark none of the girls wanted it to end. The players were terrific with the girls. As soon as they got there they took over the practice, and with no help had an organized fun practice. The parents were all thrilled and couldn't believe what a great job the players did. The players were great role models for the team. As soon as the players left, the girls were already asking when we would have another practice with them. We would like to do it again next year." said Joe Cataldo, a Glenview parent and organizer of the event. |
