Following their game vs. Wright State on Sept. 23, members of the women's soccer team hosted a free clinic at the new Lakeside Soccer Stadium for local elementary and middle school children. Over 40 kids attended the event, participating in drills with the Wildcats and reviewing the fundamentals of soccer. Donations were accepted for the nonprofit organization Student Movement for Real Change (SMRC), who is raising money to build soccer fields in South Africa. The SMRC is excited about the awareness the Wildcats are spreading and their fundraising efforts. "Last spring, the women's soccer team raised money toward building new soccer fields in South Africa for the Manyaleti community. This fall the team continues to reach their $10,000 goal by accepting donations from organizing youth soccer clinics in the Chicagoland area," the SMRC website says.

Sunday's clinic was the most encouraging event yet. "This was definitely the largest group of kids we have coached, and it feels good to give back to the local community and try to make an impact on a global scale," Northwestern goalkeeper and co-director of the SMRC Northwestern chapter, Lauren Johnston said. "Last spring we raised $3,700 and we are still getting checks and online donations. We are really excited about our progress so far!"
